Sesame Workshop

Sesame Workshop is an independent, research-based non-profit organization present in more than 150 countries. It gives almost two hundred million children around the world access to life-changing early education, critical health lessons, and helpful tools for tough situations.

To help improve teaching and learning outcomes, in 2011, IDPF joined forces with Sesame Workshop to co-design a comprehensive Ghana-specific program called Techniques for Effective Teaching (TEFT). The program delivers multimedia content targeting schoolteachers, and focuses on the delivery of pedagogy and activity-based learning techniques to enhance the quality of teaching in classrooms. Through a freely available series of 14 video-training modules that feature Sesame Workshop Muppets, early years and primary school teachers can learn valuable techniques to create lesson-specific, low-cost teaching materials as well as strategies on child-friendly, effective classroom management. The training modules are accompanied by a teacher workbook, a training manual, and durable classroom learning materials designed to be used alongside the videos, freely available, upon request, through a license agreement with Sesame. Get in touch for more information.

The TFET program was named a finalist in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas 2019 in the Education category. Learn more here.

Since its rollout in 2011, TFET has trained 286 school leaders, including 99 LFPS proprietors and 187 teachers, across 121 schools in Ghana.
